Water ski, wakeboard and wakesurf in Monaco

Towed water sports, Monaco-bay edition, with certified instructors and a dedicated boat.

Three disciplines, one boat

Starting from the Quai des États-Unis, our water skiing, wakeboarding and wakesurfing sessions take place in Monaco Bay, between the Rocher des Grimaldi and the villas of Cap d’Ail. Three complementary disciplines, the same professional boat (our Nautique Super Air GS22) and qualified instructors who tailor the session to your level.

Can’t decide between the three disciplines? Your instructor will help you choose the format best suited to your skill level, your physique and what you fancy doing that day.

Wakesurf in Monaco on our Nautique Super Air GS22

Wakesurf is the most recent of the three disciplines and, paradoxically, one of the most natural to pick up. Once you’re standing on the board, you drop the rope and surf the wave the boat generates continuously behind it. No more pull, no more arm effort, just the wake and you.

Surfing the wake with no rope

After a short towed start to get you up, you place the board in the power pocket, right behind the boat. You drop the rope and stay on the wave for as long as your balance holds. The sensation is close to sea surfing, with the advantage of a constant wave that never closes out.

Wakesurf calls for a bit of agility at the start, less endurance than water ski or wakeboard. Most riders reach the standing position on their first attempts. After a fall, the boat comes back for you and you set off again without losing session rhythm.

Nautique Surf System (NSS): a wave on demand

Our boat, a Super Air Nautique GS22, 2025 model, carries the Nautique Surf System. The system pairs ballasts and hydraulic flaps to shape a wave whose size, profile and length are set from the console. A 6-year-old surfs a soft, wide wave; an experienced rider gets a shorter, steeper wave to chain tight turns.

Up to 3 riders and 3 guests on board

The wakesurf format allows up to three riders who take turns behind the boat, plus three guests who enjoy the session on board. A setup designed for families, couples and groups of friends who want to share the session without everyone being in the water at the same time.

Water ski in Monaco: the glide school par excellence

Water ski remains the most direct gateway into towed gliding. The activity calls for balance, solid leg drive and the ability to let the boat pull you up out of the water.

How a session unfolds

After a short briefing on the dock (starting position in the water, communication signals with the driver, rope-release rule in case of a fall), you board. The boat takes you to the riding zone, away from maritime traffic. You drop into the water, the instructor passes you the skis and the rope, then the boat accelerates progressively to lift you out of the water. A session lasts 10 minutes timed by the boat’s track.

Bi-ski or mono-ski: which board

The bi-ski is the recommended setup for beginners: two parallel skis offer a wider base and ease the water start. Most beginners stand up by the second or third attempt. The mono-ski is for those who’ve already felt the edge on a bi-ski: less buoyancy at start, sharper turn precision, an edge feel closer to alpine skiing on groomed snow.

Wakeboard in Monaco: glide, jumps and progression

Wakeboard rides on a board with bindings, towed by a rope that’s shorter and lower than water ski. The natural stance is sideways, lead foot forward, and the wake formed by the boat becomes a ramp.

How a session unfolds

Like water ski, a wakeboard session lasts 10 minutes. The start is in the water, board under your feet, arms extended on the rope. The boat accelerates gently to the water start. Once standing, you ride the wake, edge out to jump the wave, come back, repeat. Fall or no fall, your instructor repositions you and gets you going again within seconds.

Rope, speed, tricks: the settings

The wakeboard rope is length-adjustable to widen or shorten your wake playground. The driver also adjusts boat speed in real time, based on your build and your progression. A 30 kg rider and an 85 kg adult don’t pull the same rope at the same speed. Every session is calibrated so you can progress without forcing.

Private lessons with a certified instructor

You can extend any of the three disciplines with a dedicated lesson where an instructor stays with you in the water. Lesson slots run from 9 am to 11 am, when the bay is at its flattest and visibility is at its peak.

Beginner

Learning the techniques to get out of the water, stay standing and ride your first turns in the boat’s wake. Recommended for children from age 5 and adults discovering towed gliding.

Session rate + €60 for the lesson

Advanced

Targeted technical work, new tricks and edge refinement. The instructor films, debriefs and adjusts between each pass.

Session rate + €60 for the lesson

FAQ — Wake & Water Ski in Monaco

What's the difference between water ski, wakeboard and wakesurf?

Water ski runs standing on one or two skis, towed by a taut rope. Wakeboard uses a single board with bindings, sideways stance, and lets you jump the wake. Wakesurf is about releasing the rope to free-surf the wave behind the boat. Water ski leans on speed and balance, wakeboard on jumps, wakesurf on free gliding.

What is the minimum age for wake in Monaco?

All three activities are open from age 5, with boards and life jackets sized for kids. The instructor adapts boat speed, rope length and wave size (for wakesurf) to the young rider’s build.

Do I need to know how to swim for water skiing in Monaco?

Yes, swimming ability is required for all our towed activities. The CE-standard life jacket is provided and worn at all times, but it does not replace the ability to swim independently after a prolonged fall.

How much does a water ski or wakeboard session cost in Monaco?

A 10-minute session of water ski or wakeboard costs €90. Wakesurf, offered in longer formats, starts at €225 for 30 minutes and goes up to €405 for 60 minutes. Any activity booked before noon gets a €45 discount per activity.

How does a wakesurf session run in Monaco bay?

You board from the Quai des États-Unis, safety briefing included. The boat reaches a calm zone of the bay, between the Rock and Cap d’Ail. You drop into the water, you start towed on a short rope, then you release the rope to surf the wave. Each rider takes a turn, up to 3 riders per session. If you fall, the boat is back within seconds.

What is the Nautique Super Air GS22 and what makes it specific?

The GS22 is a tow-sport boat dedicated to towed disciplines, made by Nautique, a world reference in wakesurf. Its specific feature: the Nautique Surf System, which shapes the wave via ballasts and hydraulic flaps. Wave size, profile and length adjust from the boat console, for a wave calibrated to your level.

What's the best season for wake in Monaco?

The wake season runs from April to October, with water at 22-25 °C from June to September. Early-morning slots (9 am-11 am) give the flattest water and the best visibility. Riding remains pleasant into early autumn, when bay traffic drops.
